This site is sponsored by the American Academy of Sanitarians.

The American Academy of Sanitarians was formed in 1966 to improve the environmental health profession through recognition and certification of sanitarians who have achieved excellence in the practice of environmental health.
The Academy membership covers the breadth of environmental health professionals and specialists practicing the Sanitarian profession, from environmental managers, environmental health specialists, industrial hygienists, radiations physicists, to toxicologists.
Sanitarian is the discipline name for professionals practicing the various types of environmental health; similar to the name Physician describes the various certified professionals and specialists practicing medicine, and Attorney describes the various certified professionals practicing law.
Certification by the Academy is open to persons who have attained high professional stature through leadership and accomplishment in the field of Environmental Health.
The purposes and objectives of the American Academy of Sanitarians:
- Elevate the standards, improve the practice, advance the professional proficiency, and promote the highest levels of ethical conduct among professional sanitarians in every field of environmental health.
- Certify, through admission into membership and issuance of certificates as Diplomats, those sanitarians whose knowledge, ethical standards of practice, and proven competence represent the best of the profession.
- Promote high academic standards for the undergraduate and graduate training of sanitarians.
- Encourage the elevation of professional practices and technical knowledge of the environmental health profession through the professional organizations and associations representing the various types of sanitarians.
